A Comparison Of Guitar Types And How To Choose

The guitar is a wonderful instrument that has been around for as long as 4000 years. Today the acoustic guitar is still very popular, while the electric guitar guitar is just as, if not more popular in youth.  However, whether you want and acoustic or electric there are many options in the comparison of guitar types.  Even among the many genres of music the acoustic and electric are both used on a very regular basis.  The most important thing to decide before choosing which kind of guitar you desire is what application you want the guitar for.

Differences In Sound

For the most part the electric guitar is used in companion with an amplifier of some kind.  You can purchase an amplifier to use the guitar with, but will have to have a power source for the sound to be produced.  Another option is to go directly into a sound system if that is available.  Within the acoustic guitar family there are standard acoustic guitars with no electronics that can be played and heard without the use of an amplifier.  And also acoustic/ electric guitars that can be heard just the same as a standard acoustic or plugged into an amplifier or system to be heard through the loudspeaker. The comparison of guitar types among acoustics is a little less noticeable as the sound difference is made by the type of wood, neck style, and string choice.

Guitar Body Types

In the electric guitar families there are a few solid body options that you might want to consider in the comparison of guitar types.  There is the Les Paul style guitar that is usually fitted with some kind of hum-bucker pickups.  On the other side of that is the Telecaster style that is outfitted with single coil pickups.  The difference between the two are very noticeable and can be chosen as your taste allows.  Another kind of electric is the hollow body guitar, or semi-hollow body.  Either of one of these options will give you a much more open sound than a standard solid body electric while still delivering that extra bite when you want it.

In the comparison of guitar types there are going to be differences.  It's important to remember that your choices are many and often time guitar players use more than one guitar to get the various sounds that they might need for a particular application.
